What is Blepharoplasty?

As we age the eyelids lose their elasticity and become lax with excess loose skin and much wrinkles. The loss of eyelid firmness and the bulging of orbital fat together with the weakened muscles bring dramatic changes to the eyelids with the appearance of fat bags above or below the eyes.

Blepharoplasty is an eyelid lift surgery that rejuvenates the appearance of both upper and lower eyelids. Upper Blepharoplasty targets both upper eyelids, while Lower Blepharoplasty targets both lower eyelids.

In both upper and lower blepharoplasties the excess loose skin is being removed together with any bulging fat pad creating naturally looking youthfully toned eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is an artistic work of beauty that rejuvenates the eyelids back to its youthful stature.

What are the complementary procedures that could be done with Blepharoplasties?

Sometimes we add another complementary procedure to blepharoplasty in order to get the best aesthetical outcome to that area.

  • Brow lift: it could be combined with an upper blepharoplasty in a single procedure from the same incision in order to raise droopy brows.
  • Midface lift: it could be combined with a lower blepharoplasty in a single procedure from the same incision in order to manage a droopy midfacial fat beneath the lower eyelid.

Who is a candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is typically a perfect choice for men and women who are concerned about the appearance of their eyes and have any of the following:

  • Aging signs of the eyelids.
  • Eyelids skin sagging.
  • Wrinkles at the upper or lower eyelids.
  • Fat bags beneath the lower eyelid.
  • Puffiness above or below the eyes.
  • Difficulty in opening the eyes due to excess skin hooding of the upper eyelids.
  • Patients wishing to have a more alert, refreshed, and youthful eye appearance.
  • Droopy midfacial fat.
  • Droopy eyebrows.

Recovery from Blepharoplasty:

Patients are expected to have their eyes swollen for approximately 1 week.

Sutures are to be removed by the 5th – 7th day after surgery if they are of the non absorbable type, If the patient is traveling abroad we use absorbable sutures that require no removal. The incision line is healed well by the 10th day and starts to disappear gradually over the next 6 months of surgery until it becomes invisible.
