What is arm lift surgery?

lovely arms can be yours:

An arm lift procedure is the perfect solution for the saggy upper arms; they give the patient a tighter, slimmer, and a more toned, lovely youthful appearance of the arms.

Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight due to bariatric surgery or any other reason for weight loss are also excellent candidates for this procedure.

Can I do an upper arm liposuction instead of arm lift surgery?

Upper arm liposuction and fat contouring can give your arms a slimmer, more youthful appearance in the case of having tight skin envelope without having any saggings.

Arm lift surgery however is the only effective solution for upper arm skin excess that results in arm sagging during raising the arms upwards.

Arm lift surgery includes both fat liposuction to get rid of excess fat, and skin envelope tightening to give the arms their firm, toned, and lovely youthful appearance.

Arm lift surgery procedure technique:

An arm lift procedure (Brachioplasty) is typically performed in one of three ways:

  • A standard brachioplasty:

Is an approach where scar is placed from the inner part of the elbow along the bicipital groove and ends in the armpit.

The advantage of this technique is placing the scar in a hidden location while having your arms at your side, even with a sleeveless shirt. It gives superior results when compared to a limited scar brachioplasty.

  • An L-brachioplasty:

Is a technique most often used for patients who have lost significant weight usually after bariatric surgery.

The scar in L-brachioplasty is similar to that of a standard brachioplasty with an additional extension to the axilla.

The advantage of this technique is that it allows for not only removing the hair bearing skin of the axilla so that you don’t have to shave it anymore, but also it helps to tighten the loose upper back/axillary skin that spills out of a tight bra strap.

The procedure can also be combined with an upper body lift or breast lift to maximize the aesthetic results.

  • A limited scar brachioplasty:

Is a technique that is suitable for many but not all cases, limiting the scar to the axillary region only.

The advantage of this technique is having a very limited scar that is concealed inside the armpits. The scar will not be visible in any arm position while wearing short sleeves.

The disadvantage of this technique is that it is not suitable for all patients of brachioplasty and the results are less superior when compared with the standard technique.

What to expect from an arm lift procedure?

Arm lift procedure offers you the following benefits to enjoy:

  • You can enjoy slimmer, firm, and youthfully shaped upper arms that you enjoy while wearing any type of clothes.
  • No more upper arm sagging while raising your arms or in any other position.
  • Scars should be hidden while you wear t-shirts or short sleeves.

Expected scars in upper arms lift:

Scars should normally be expected with all types of arm lift, however the scars are made inconspicuous on the inner part of the arms.

The scar length, site, and visibility all depend on the type of arm lift suitable for you and your goals.

All the scars are made as invisible as possible during surgery and are designed to be in a hidden location on the inner side of the arms.

Short scar arm lift results in a well concealed scar that lies inside the armpit, however the results are less superior when compared to standard arm lift.

Recovery from arm lift procedure:

It is not considered a painful procedure, pain killers in the form of patches, pills, and intramuscular injections if needed totally alleviate pain.

Swelling (edema) should be expected in all cases and lasts for about 2 weeks after surgery.

The incision lines heal well in about 10 days. The sutures used are usually of the self absorbable type and you don’t have to worry about their removal. If for any reason the non absorbable type is used, it has to be removed by the 10th – 14th day after surgery.

Drains (small plastic tubes) are usually not required in arm lift, but however if used they are removed in a few days after surgery.

Compression garments are required during the 1st two weeks after surgery.

Early walking after the procedure is highly encouraged.

Most patients need about 2 weeks off work, 1 month before going to the Gym., and 2 months for full recovery.

End results are expected soon after the operation however you need to wait for the swelling to disappear within the 1st 2 weeks after surgery.
