What is Neck Lift?

Being a visible part of the woman’s body, Neck aging is one of the most annoying problems that could appear in a relatively young age by the effect of many variable factors like sunlight exposure, weight loss, the effect of gravity, etc…

Neck lift referred to as “lower Rhytidectomy” is your way to regain back the beautifully toned neck of the youth. It offers you an exceptionally natural outcome achieved by a precision tightening of the underlying muscles, smoothening of the loose skin, and the removal of excess fat.

Neck lift manages the aging signs of the lower jawline, chin, and the neck to address any saggy skin or neck bands resulting in well toned youthful appearance and a stunning result that lasts for many years if not decades to come.

What are the concerns to be treated with neck lift?

Neck lift surgery is one of the most common cosmetic facial surgical procedures done nowadays either separately or in combination with face lift in a single procedure.

Neck lift manages almost all of the aging signs of the neck which include:

  • Sagging neck skin (turkey neck)
  • Weak neck muscles
  • Neck bands
  • Prominent salivary glands under the lower jawline
  • Lack of lower jaw line definition
  • Double chin caused by excess fat under the platysma muscle (subplatysmal fat)
  • Double chin with excess fat holding a loose skin

Who is a candidate for neck lift?

Neck lift surgery is typically a perfect choice for men and women who are concerned by any of the following:

  • Neck aging
  • Sagging neck skin (turkey neck)
  • Neck bands
  • Lack of lower jaw line definition
  • Double chin in certain situations

What are the different techniques in neck lift?

Neck lift procedure in general has to deal with different layers of the neck including the skin, subcutaneous fat, and most importantly is the Platysma muscle layer

The Platysma muscle is responsible for many of the annoying problems of the neck that include neck bands, and muscle weakness, but on the other hand it is the layer that actually holds the neck up during a neck lift procedure.

The platysma muscle layer could be addressed by one of two ways; either from the midline by “Midline Platysmaplasty”, or from below the ears during a “Deep Plane Neck Lift”

Midline platysmaplasty is the best way to achieve a long lasting management to neck bands, while a Deep plane Neck Lift is the best way to manage the sagging neck skin, that is why some patients require only midline platysmaplasty while others require deep plane neck lift and in some cases requiring both.

A Hammock flap is an additional choice to the deep plan neck lift that makes the lower jawline definition more evident for those who have lost lower jawline definition.

Neck lift surgery procedure techniques summarized below:

  • Neck lift surgeries from the midline:
    1. Midline Platysmaplasty
  • Neck lift surgeries from below the ears:
    1. Deep Plane Neck Lift
  • Neck lift surgery complementary procedures that are required in some but not all patients:
  1. Hammock flap
  2. prominent submandibular salivary gland repositioning
  3. prominent digastric muscle shaving

Recovery from neck lift surgery:

Neck lift surgery is not considered a painful procedure, regular pain medication should totally alleviate pain.

Sutures are of the absorbable type, but however it is better to have them removed by the 7th – 10th day after surgery.

Drains (plastic tubes to drain fluids) are used in some cases and are removed 2 – 3 days after surgery.

Return back to work in 10 – 14 days, gymnastics in 21 days, full recovery in 6 – 8 weeks.
